Christian BLANCHET
CÔTES de BLAYE (Bordeaux)

The appellation “CÔTES de BLAYE” appearing in most former and prestigious family of the high-class Wines of Bordeaux, extends on right side of the Gironde estuary. Halfway between Bordeaux and Royan, Saint Ciers /Gironde is characterized by contrasts between marsh and slopes.

The vineyard enjoys a privileged exposure thanks to its slope oriented to the sun side that shelters it from the North wind; the field is on a argilo-gravelly ground which confers on the wine a remarkable unique taste. The county side is based on a Gallo-Roman habitat which seems to have been occupied during the Early Roman Empire and discovered at the end of the XX century.

The type of vines are those traditional of Bordeaux as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Frank for the red wines and as Sauvignon and Muscadelle for the white wines.
As a traditional winegrower since several generations, with the know-how he built and the love of his work, Christian BLANCHET is giving to his wine a particular subtlety, its own “Wine Signature” as he call it.

The medals and the awards attributed each year in the specialized press have value of confirmation that its Wine Signature is valuated as one of the best within the Côtes de Blaye county.

From 1994, the wines are aged in oak barrels. The red wines, ruby very sinks and shining, are marked by a red fruit and under wood taste; they have a fruity and fresh savour with molten tannins. They are put out of vats approximately a year. They are subject to a very serious follow-up with regular rakings. Concrete vats confer a major color and develop a final taste of black fruits accompany by timbers molten. This wine, aged, grid and round are marked with silky tannins.

"Cuvée Confidence"

Ref: BL2-Me

Grapes Varietal:
100% Merlot

Region - Soil:
- North-West of Bordeaux, right side of Gironde estuary, South-West of France
- gravelly clay

Vineyard - Area planted:
South oriented slope dominating the estuary of the Gironde. 2.5 ha, 12000 bottles

Winemaking Process:
In order to decrease the severe strength of the vine, grass is growing together with the vines. We do stripping of the two faces of the row of vine at the beginning of July to support the sunning and the penetration of the wind in the middle of grapes to improve medical quality and to obtain a homogeneous and maximum maturity of its fruit. In order to concentrate a maximum of tannins we do selective sorting of the grape by polishing, at the beginning of August. (35 hectoliters per hectare).

Fermentation:
Pre-fermentative maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation with permanent control of the temperature and regular racking This wine is aged in new oak barrels before malolactic fermentation for 18 months.

Tasting:
Appearance: Deep and constant, of beautiful glare
Aromas: Bilberry, black cherry, timbers delicate and vanilla, in a pleasantness unit, supplements by an almost grilled touch.
Mouthfeel: A massive vintage and concentrates, extremely fleshy, whose screen proves to be tight and elegant at the same time. It is the fruit maturity and the balance which have enthusiasm the tasters. This wine of high behavior offers a great volume in mouth, final fleshy, persistent and fatty, particularly distinguished.
